Types of veneers

According to the type and design, types of veneers are many and can be categorized into direct and indirect veneers.

Direct Veneers is the one called “Composite Veneers” that are directly applied to the tooth surface, finished, and polished in a long visit and they have some advantages and disadvantages.

Indirect ceramic veneers have many names and synonyms; some are related to manufacturing techniques and others to the brand names. Those are made in a laboratory and require multiple sessions depending on the case and its demands.

The more permanent solution is the indirect ceramic veneers, this one has indications and contraindications that are decided based on the condition of the teeth.

Design of veneers

• Design of veneers can range from a very thin and delicate shell of ceramic to a thick layer that is needed to correct some malformations in teeth or to close spaces, the design of veneers depends on the patient’s need and the condition of the teeth.
• Their design is also depending on the teeth to be restored; they are either prepared or left not prepared.
• Preparation is only a maximum of 1 mm reduction of the tooth size to give the ceramic veneer a space to be in harmony with teeth and gums.

Veneers are more than a layer to cover teeth or a masking gadget, once they are cemented to teeth they become part of the mouth and teeth and whatever affects teeth will affect veneers.
